Would Tata motors ruin LR history ?
If you are buying for speculation based upon some FUTURE VALUE, LR is not the thing to buy. They all depreciate like a mudslide. Buy one that has already seen a major depreciation and enjoy it as long as you can keep it going.
If you are thinking it will maintain it's value, you missed the boat. Find a solid one and enjoy it. If you got lots of money and want one that has not been abused, look at importing an ex-MOD (Ministry of Defense) retired vehicle from England.
If you buy a run of the mill soccer mom vehicle, be prepared to do a lot of maintenance that may have been ignored by previous owners.

They are already destroying it. The new models due in 2015 turn landrovers into every other fake 4x4 on the market, more for soccer moms than a good offroad vehicle.
The new defender looks like a mini with hatchback.
The freelander looks like the evoque.
No storage to stop things rolling around in the rear, The spare tire is inside the vehicle [criminal on a 4x4] The commanding drive position with good all round view is gone with the squashed little windows at the back.
If you want a landrover get an old one, the ones are no longer landrovers, may as well just buy a cheap kia.

White is the hip colour these days - it's the new black.
In all honesty, Tata no doubt are into LR for the money, nothing else. LR group are doing very well selling Chelsea tractors around the world. Gone are the days of the LR work horse etc. They now produce top end tractors that will never see any mud let alone offroad use. The breed of LR enthusiasts is to a greater extent of no interest to TATA and will be consigned to the scrapheap. TATA have already stated they may well move the production to India because labour is cheaper. As an investment potential, I think a Vette or Aston Martin DB4, 5, or 6 is a far better bet. Older LR's, for what the future holds, are just a rusting recreational vehicle for the likes of us or those that want to customise them to lookalike a drug dealers wagons or a scifi machines. What will always be the old LR trademark is their serious offroad use, customisation for that purpose and work horse capability. Anything else will be dreaming and nostalgia - I'm afraid.
