2014 RRSC Suspension Grinding/Knocking Issue
Hello all, first thank you for any and all assistance with this issue. I noticed a grinding/clunking/knocking noise which sounded pretty violent first near the right front wheel and it only happened when I made a right turn when articulated, nothing when turning left or on flat surfaces. I took it into a referred shop that specializes in British vehicles nearby. They took a look and first said it was the front ball joints, which I replaced along with other issues like a leaking air strut, alignment and oil change. When I picked up the vehicle I immediately noticed the same grinding/clunking noise from the front right wheel. I drove around the block and took it back and they looked at it again, this time they then said it was the lower front control arms that needed replacing so I agreed to that as well. When I picked it up the third time the grinding/clunking sound had moved to the rear axel of the vehicle. It was the same noise just moved toward the rear end of the vehicle. After giving them more time to inspect the vehicle they came back and said that the active cornering enhancement (ACE) motor was causing the issue as it had failed and the stabilizer bar had shifted forward and the unit(s) would need to be replaced. I did some research and asked them to remove the ACE fuse and see if the noise persists, they said when they disabled the ACE system the noise went away. I can replace both front and rear stabilizer bars but they are expensive and I'm not confident that it will fix the core issue though since the noise moved from the front of the vehicle to the rear after replacing the front lower control arms. I'm assuming it changed the geometry of the vehicle and that is why the clunking noise moved from the front to the rear.
Other things to try:
1. Flush ACE Fluid
2. Replace rear stabilizer bar links before replacing the stabilizer bar
I would really appreciate any one's thoughts on this issue. Thank you very much!!
