air suspension roadside test before buying
Hi
I'd really like to buy a p38 but am really put off by the air suspension bags and their leaks. Other than spraying each boot with soap water, or waiting a few days and seeing if there is any obvious sagging of the wheels, is there a simple, rough perhaps, guide to looking out for leaking, when inspecting a car before you buy?
Would love to know members' tips

thanks. So, if it raises up a little, then this is a sign that all is well? Im assuming then that even on a good system, that it sinks a little when the engine is switched off.

Maroon, you may also want to raise the system, and see if one side is higher than the other. Go back and front and really look. The EAS system is a PIA, but this is what gives the P38 its ride which is a pleasure. If you do buy it, make sure you know of a good local shop that works extensively on older rovers. They will put the EAS on a schedule for maintenance. You are getting the comments because the schedule for these cars is important, and you need to accept that when you buy a P38. It is a classic love hate relationship and they will decide to act up at odd times, but are normally dead reliable if on the proper maintenance schedule. If not, it is a disaster. They are not for the owner who changes the oil and is good to go and you need to feel the motor and vehicle ride, and really read them when you drive them. Good luck.

The EAS system is said to “tolerate” small leaks. But that doesn’t mean that they all should leak a little...I just rebuilt my EAS and it doesn’t leak at all..ZERO leaking. It’s been over a week and it hasn’t dropped not one mm.
