Door sensor and lock issues
Taken on fixing my dads P38 4.6 HSE 1997 for him.
Thoughts on this one so I can get his truck back on the road, reliably.
In order of faults as I found it over some weeks.
NB RHD Australian car.
Noticed the battery would go flat overnight. Would be fine for several days, a week then randomly dead.
As the car is moving off from stopped, the error LH-R door not closed. Door is closed and locked.
Took door card off and checked the 6 way plug. Meter confirmed no broken wires.
Plugged in and LH-R error gone and it moved to LH-F door not closed.
LH-R door no longer locks or unlocks with key fob.
Interior lights stay on.
If I lock the LH-F door before driving off all errors are gone.
Lock with drivers door, all lock (except LH-R) and it errors with LH-F not closed. BUT the doors are locked (except LH-R)
If I lock up for night using the key fob, all doors lock (except this problematic LH-R) and interior lights stay on.
If I lock up for night, accessing from LH-R, lock the truck by pushing LH-F door lock plunger all doors lock (except LH-R), I then manually lock LH-R, close the door, all interior lights fade as expected, next day, dead battery.
Checked battery for drain, shows 1mA.
Disconnected the battery for a day and when reconnected, truck started perfectly. I will be getting a battery check just to be sure.
What am I chasing if anyone has ideas, appreciate it.
Thanks
Ray

I think your battery going flat is related to the door issue. You can try electro contact cleaner on the door switches (door cards need to be removed). I hate to send you to another forum but rangerovers.net has a lot of P38 experience.
Sounds like you have an issue with the door actuator.
Inside the actuator on the drivers side there are 3 microswitches. These are like small buttons. The P38 door actuator microswitches are known to go bad. The rubber boot that covers each microswitch rips.
For the drivers side there are 3 levers inside the actuator. One for each microswitch. One presses the button when the key is used to unlock the door. A second lever presses a microswitch with the inside door sill is used to lock or unlock the door. The third lever presses a microswitch when the door is closed. That microswitch may be broken and therefore the computer is not getting the signal the door is closed and causing the issues.
