I have been working on my 2008 Range Rover Sport Supercharged that has a lot of minor issues that I am slowly resolving. I have had the bonnet open message since day one and have already replaced the hood latch and sensor, but it did not resolve the issue. I noticed that the hood release cable has too much play in it, and there is a section where the protective sleeving has worn off and allowed the cable to rust. I am replacing the cable that goes to both latches and the other half of the cable that goes to the release lever in the cabin. Replacing the cable that goes to the latches is no problem, but I am struggling with the other half that goes into the cabin. I have watched the videos and visited various threads on this forum and other forums, but they do not show the part that is giving me trouble for this particular US spec L320. The grommet that goes into the firewall needs to be removed, but it is behind a piece of a foam padding that I cannot remove without extensive disassembly of components. I can feel the grommet behind the foam with my fingers, but I do not see how I am going to be able to manipulate it behind the foam to remove it and install the new one. The cable is fed behind several wiring harnesses that also makes it difficult to access from the leftmost side. Is there a more straightforward way to remove this cable grommet and feed it out and feed the new one in for install that will not require the extensive disassembly to remove the foam pad against the firewall?
Update: I have replaced the portion of the hood cable that goes to both of the latches, and it has cleared the "Bonnet Open" message. However, I am still trying to figure out how to go about replacing the portion of the hood cable that goes to the release lever. I took some pictures that I am including to show the problem area. It appears a lot was packed into a small area, and it will be a lot of disassembly to better access the cable and the grommet being the problem part. Behind the corner of the gray colored foam is the grommet, which I can feel with my hand, but I do not see how I will be able to pull it out and insert the grommet of the new cable.
