Default 2013 Overheating

I changed the water pump and thermostat. In and out hoses from the radiator are good and moving fluid. There's no smoke coming from the exhaust. The dealership said they are going to have to replace the engine after a $300 compression test. I'm considering checking the cylinder heads. Is there anyone that can offer any advice before I continue replacing parts or is the engine shot?
