“Think of Africa. No, dream of Africa, of giraffe and wildebeest wandering through tall grasslands, of lazy lions sulking in the sunlight. Now dream of an ideal vehicle for this idyllic land. Dream of a Land Rover, bounding over rocks and rills, fording creeks and rivers, thundering through the savanna.
A Land Rover is both legend and the real thing. It is the authentic 4x4 that can venture deep into the backcountry. Its suspension articulation, permanent four-wheel-drive system, and off-road technology must be experienced in extreme conditions to be truly appreciated.“ - quote from review on autoblog .com
I am needing to part with my beloved Disco and am hoping to find another Land Rover fanatic to take her in. I have owned this vehicle for two years and she has been a fantastic ride. I recently moved to California from the Midwest and no longer have the space or need for this type of vehicle and therefore need to sell. It was my intention to keep the vehicle upon moving but once I got the car here I realized street parking in my area is a hassle and I only drive two days a week for work, so it’s really better for me to bike and sell the car. I have not registered the vehicle for California and when I went to do the smog test the vehicle failed due to the SES (service engine soon/check engine light) being on. They gave me an error code P0455 and instructed I replace the gas cap. I replaced the gas cap with an OEM part from a trusted Land Rover site but have not tested the issue again. The SES light remains on. Being new to the area, I am not familiar with any mechanics or Land Rover shops nearby and don’t want to trust random shops that I know nothing about. If someone is interested in buying this vehicle and has a trusted auto shop, I would be more than happy to have a diagnostic done to figure out if the problem has been solved or, if the issue persists, what we can do to fix it. That is the only mechanical issue I am aware of at this time. The car runs great and you would not notice a problem if the SES light was not on. California, unfortunately, does not do true smog tests but instead does an OBDI Test which measures data provided via your vehicle’s computerized diagnostics system. What could go wrong with that?! Ha! The guy at the smog test station I went to said that if you have a SES light on then your vehicle will fail the inspection. Simple as that. So, if anyone knows where to get a TSI Test (two-speed idle test) that may be the place to go for older cars that might have trouble working with more modern technology!
This Discovery is tried and true! I drove the vehicle 1500 miles across the US in the heat of the summer, pulling a 12 foot trailer full of stuff. Not a single problem! I have never had this vehicle break down or leave me stranded. The off road capabilities are intoxicating and can definitely be put to good use in the rugged California terrain. The grille guard also comes in handy for street parking around here and will prevent any unwanted damage to those headlights! And if sh*t hits the fan in 2020, you need this as your get out of dodge vehicle!
