Default Asking for input on Heads!

I have the ability to get heads for 4.0 and 4.6 and have a valve job, machined and checked out for cracks.

I was wondering if it would be beneficial to offer this service and this is what I was wondering so please give me feed back.

For a set of heads machined, valve job and clear of cracks would $500 be reasonable. There is no core charge but I maybe able to work something out if your heads are not cracked?

Do you think this would be advantageous to offer to the forum or am I wasting time?

Will Tillery already does something similar, and he can also provide the head gasket sets and bolts at the same time. You might check his posts over on discoweb to compare prices. If you are cheaper you might have a some success. If you aren't most people would probably buy from Will because he is well known and trusted in the Land Rover community.

I don't see him posting much over here, so I don't know that you'd be stepping on any toes. I just want to make sure that if you decide to do this you'll be competitive.

do you think $500 is a fair price? Since rebuilt ones are around 1000.00 or more?

It doesn't sound TOO high considering no core. I don't recall what Will charges. I know his do have a core because people weren't shipping the heads back.

Personally I'd probably just spend the $250 or so to have mine worked over. But machine shop prices vary quite a bit so some might find this a very good deal.

i don't think $500 is high. especially if you can gain good reputation for trued quality offerings. Now if you can figure out how to ship them for free

When I did my head gaskets a local Indy shop only charged $300 for reman heads with the new style cutting valves. But I gave them mine. With no core, $500 seems reasonable though.

Best way to catch Will is to call him during business hours, you may have to leave a message. His new number at his new location in Lexington, VA is 540-462-7353. I believe he plans to be are URE as well, but not 100% on that Harold.
