SOLD: 2003 Land Rover Discovery SE, 92k (new engine @ 70k)
Hello LREF Members,
This vehicle has been sold.
Thanks for everyone's comments and help.
AJ
I'm sadly selling my beloved Disco II and I'm hoping it'll go to someone who will take care of it as well as I have.
Here are some highlights:
- 2003 with only 92k Miles
- It's Silver with Black Leather
- I bought from CarMax with 28k miles and got the extended warranty (expired at 78k miles)
- No "Check Engine" lights on the dash! All known issues with Land Rovers have been repaired
- It's an Accident free car and is CarFax Certified (Available at this DropBox Link)
- It's never been smoked in
- I have the Clean/Clear Title in hand
- VIN: SALTY16463A799151
Current Condition:
- Engine and transmission are strong and shift smoothly
- Does NOT leak oil thanks to the new engine (common fail point)
- No error lights on the dash
- Interior is in great shape, no cracked or scuffed up leather, but headliner sags in expected area
- Heated windshield, seats, mirrors work great
- Power Seats, Cruise Control, Hill Descent Control, Factory stereo, 3 Keys (1 remote, 2 spares), etc...
- Exterior is in great shape, no dents, but a few small nicks and scratches here and there
- Two cracks in the plastic bumper covers, does not affect drivability or safety
- Everything works as it should
Vehicle Service History:
- New engine installed from dealer at 70k miles, under warranty
- New head gasket and new O2 sensors at 78k miles (common fail point)
- Radiator flush at 80k miles
- Differential flush at 80k miles
- New battery at 80k miles
- 5 new AT tires at 83k miles
- New rear springs in 2017
- All 5 door lock mechanisms replaced at some point in the last 5 years (common fail point)
- Front driver and passenger window regulator arms replaced in the last 2 years (common fail point)
- AC recharge in 2016
- Oil changed every 5k miles
I'm located in downtown Chicago and I'm selling this truck because I bought something bigger for my family.
First $4,000 takes it.
Thanks and contact me if have any questions, more pictures, or if you'd like to check it out,
- AJ

Interested. I am near Detroit though. Would you be willing to meet about halfway in Kalamazoo/Portage, MI area?I would like some interior pics/engine pics. I have cash on hand and ready to purchase - LMK.
My engine knock was getting so loud and the sputtering engine was becoming more prevalent that the dealer decided to replace the engine after several visits and no solutions. The term "New Engine" defined by a warranty company could mean anything, but I was told that they replaced the engine block and rockers. In any event, the engine ran great for another 8k miles and then the engine started to misfire, overheat and leak fluids. I started taking the Disco to LR specialist and he determined the engine problems were caused by the head gasket, bad thermostat and old hoses. She's been running like a champ ever since he replace them.
I also forgot to mention that the power steering pump was replaced at 80K, as well. It was leaking fluids and the steering was getting stiff.
I posted the full response, but it's still under review with the moderator. Hopefully it'll get posted soon.
Long story short, the dealers "replacement engine" meant a new engine block and rockers. Everything worked fine for 8k miles and then the head gasket went our with the thermostat. Everything's been working great ever since.
