I've heard that places like UPS don't require large items like that to be wrapped. It would be a good idea to wrap and ship the mounting pieces separately. Big stuff often just gets a label attached to it.
If you can get an estimate, I can work out whether it makes more sense for it to be shipped or for me to drive down to get it.

Mollusc - I put it out for a quote on uship.com. We'll see what happens. I will also check with UPS as soon as I am able to do so. Thank you again for your interest.

Mollusc - I stopped at a UPS Store today to get a quote. They said it would be a minimum of $400 for the roof rack "basket" only, plus it would need to be boxed. The mounting hardware would go in a separate box that would cost probably another $30 to ship.

Next I checked bus freight. The rack is too big for bus freight by a few inches.

I also put it out for quotes on UShip. One came back at $400 and another at just under $300.

UShip also gives you the opportunity to state what you are willing to pay and see if anyone takes the offer. I'll try that next at a lower dollar amount.

Meanwhile, if you have any other ideas please let me know.

My other option is the second week of June when my wife will be out of town, meaning that I could jump in the truck and come pick it up -- provided that you still have it at that time and I would be able to install it before returning. Let's keep in touch.
