A question directed to the 2000 mile club thread regarding your stock Discovery 1. Are you still running on Genuine stock headgaskets? Or have you already replaced the gaskets as well as other engine componets? If yes then I wonder what in the hell YOU are doing right? and please fill me in on your secret

Even the water pump, the water pump bearings started going out, changed a locked up fan clutch and the water pump is still going, that was over 2 years ago.
You want to know the real secret?
Use Rotella, NAPA Gold oil filters, change the oil every 5,000 miles and grease all u-joints at every oil change.
Change your engine coolant every 24 months, engine coolant has a lubricant in it that lubes the water pump bearings, the #1 reason water pumps die is from the bearings wearing out, from lack of lube.
I use premium fuel 98% of the time, I let it warm up for 10-15 min in the winter, I drive it like grandma until the temp gauge reads fully warmed up, even in the summer.
I check the oil once a week, all other fluids every 3 months.
Change ALL of my drive line fluids once a year.
Its not rocket science, just maintenance.
The #1 thing above and beyond anything else is preventative maintenance.
Drive with worn out fluids and you are shortening the life of your car, this goes for any car.

But I buried it to the axles, he only buried it to the rims.
Both times with a lot of effort and his wife and I jumping on the rear bumper as well as digging with my shovel (bent the shovel lol) he was able to get out both times.
And in true DII fashion the Traction Control warning light was on so that didnt work.
In his defense he has never been off road before so he was not sure how to drive, I tried to give pointers but I think I fell short.
They had a great time though.
As did I.
