Default 1967 Defender Front Control 109

Hey everyone. New member here, been searching for a rig for months and came across this 1967 for 40k swamped with a Chevy straight-six.

Honestly don’t know much about this model except it’s pretty rare and looks pretty badass.

Anyone have more info on these, parts, reliability, issues, etc… Our plan would to convert it into a camper for van life adventures.

Thanks!

It would definitely make a very cool camper van. It’s a pretty rare beast. Reliability would be difficult to predict. Do you know if it has Salisbury axles? I kind of suspect so but am not sure if they were yet available in 1967. The other standard LR axles are the weak points of that generation of LR, and especially on a larger FC vehicle you’re looking at. Salisbury axles are quite tough. That generation of LR’s are very easy to work on and troubleshoot.

Thanks, Im not sure the axles. Im having doubts, where would I even find parts for this thing? The engine would be pretty easy to find but everything else? Seems like it’s more of a toy than a full time home.

Body parts might be difficult to find but mechanical parts for any year of Land Rover are generally obtainable, and usually not too pricey. I often order my parts from the UK (I’m in Canada). Except for large heavy parts, shipping prices aren’t too bad and you can get parts in 3-10 days. The shipping on larger heavier parts is also generally not prohibitive.

Not a Defender. The Defender name first came in 1990 (post-1983, the Series trucks were replaced with an updated design that would later be labeled "Defender" by the marketing folks in 1990. It is probably OK to refer to the post-1983 non-FC trucks as Defenders... but your FC trucks is absolutely not. Yours is called a 101FC.

Also, what is it that you are using to confirm model year? 101FC's were only produced between 1972-1978, and only for military use.
