NEEDING ADVICE... Just discovered something about my somewhat newly acquired Rover and wondering if anyone else has seen an H4255 Toyota carburetor used on a Series 3?? The good is that they are easily attainable and affordable, but is there a downside to this set up?

 

I’ve never heard of a Toyota Carb on a Series LR, but there are several others that people have used. If it’s running well, it’s probably ok. I had a GM carb on my 2A and I swapped the original (IIRC SU) in. It didn’t have quite as much power (it must have been slightly under sized for the engine), but it ran really well at any angle that I put my rig into.

There was a bit of carbon build up in the induction manifold and I can't tell if it's perhaps coming from the carb or just a product of things not being taken apart and cleaned for decades. Really curious if anyone else has feedback about any downsides of sticking with what I have, or possibly replacing it with the same thing since one can be had for $50!

 

Again, I know nothing about the Toyota carb, but it’s very possible that it’s not jetted correctly for your engine. Running too rich could cause carbon buildup, but maybe not in the intake manifold, unless you’re getting some back firing. Replacement jets of various sizes used to be easy to find, but with everything being EFI I suspect they aren’t as readily available.
