Advice needed for ARB Awning mouting to SD roof rack
My new awning arrived today, be it without any mounting hardware. Looking for a simple but secure way to mount the awning to my rack. Did a google search and it appears most people have a non tubular rack, and there is more products available for those type of racks. Seems the tubular roof racks have less product support and generally less options. I was hoping there might be something at the local hardware store that could be used.
Is it recommended that I drill into the roof rack tubular construction? I prefer not to. Any tips would be appreciated.
Adel clamps are the right concept, but most are thin sheet metal. They won't hold a heavy awning well.
Look for a roll-cage brackets, tube clamps, etc.. The Synergy J-hooks from PolyPerformance could be used, but there's tons of options if you search. For example:
There's several pages to look through there. You'll narrow it down if you identify the tubing diameter. If you're looking for a fast and cheap solution, try U-bolts from the hardware store.
Another good option would be to simply weld a flat plate on the side of the tube. If you don't weld, it might still be simpler and less expensive to pay someone to weld a plate on there than to try to find more complex bolt-on clamps.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Still pretty annoyed that the awning kit was missing the mounting hardware; which according to the provided instructions was suppose to be included. I checked out all those custom fabricated mounting devices online and concluded that it would be considerably cheaper to improvise and make my own mounts for the awning.
