My factory battery tray looks like it will hold one hulk of a battery rather than the little walmart special that is in there now.
I am woefully ignorant to the battery "group" designations. Can someone tell me the largest single battery that will fit in the factory tray? I found an old thread on another forum that described an Odyssey battery and that there was a generic Sears equivalent, but didn't provide a model number or even a size.
The Odyssey specs seemed substantial and appeared to be a good option as apposed to a dual battery setup. I can do the research on what particular battery I want / can afford, I just need to know the designation for the physical size that will fit.
I read a book on electronics, forgot 99% of it, but it talked about absorbed glassmat batteries. They are a different design, more durable and last longer. I got mine at Napa, it's the recommended, and didn't have the most cca, but is warrantied for 5 years if memory serves.
I believe Odyssey are abg design.
I have had good luck with Napa honoring warranties even without receipts, and I trust their stuff.
Yeah I was definitely leaning towards an AGM. Was hoping there was something that had a high CCA rating but would also recover from an accidental deep discharge. Figured the bigger (more cells) the better.

I put a group 65 AGM in there a couple years ago from Advance Auto. Been a great battery thus far. It fills the tray pretty well. Not a squeezed in tight fit, but definitely couldn't hold much more.
Apparently the Sears platinum that the Internet speaks so highly of is no longer available. Has anyone had good luck with the parts store units, the duralast from autozone for instance? That one in particular doesn't seem very impressive on the spec sheet.

The Sears Platinums were made by Odyssey... you can still get them under the Odyssey name.
As for group 65.. I honesty would recommend going for a group 34 instead. easier to find and will have the same if not more power than the 65. The physical size of the battery means absolutely nothing.
Not sure what the group number is, but can check tomorrw...if needed. The battery has studs instead of posts, so gone are the days of sloppy fit terminal ends. Battery is designed for heavy equipment...and can be found at most heavy truck dealerships.
