LR3 2006 Key Won't turn
I've had 15 cars in life and since 2012 driving LR3 and absolutely love it
Recently started to give me troubles. I got 90k miles, in Houston TX
My ignition key won't turn, steering column is locked.
I read about similar issues on range rovers.
I tried disconnect battery.
I tried to turn it various ways - no luck.
I tried second key.
I recently changed the starter.
On repairpal.com I found 3 possible problems

Please share your ideas and solutions. Thanks so much !

So pulled console apart m looking for water damage from spilled drinks or leaking from sunroof, none found
Got in neutral, no luck
Scanned bcm for codes and there was 8, some were for my offroad lights that dont work
But then there is codes like
V0155 lost comm with cluster
B1b01 key transponders missing
B1c57 passive start fault
B1d12 volumetric power circuit short
B1a99 power on reset
B1b02
B1ba0
B1c90
Cleared codes and they came right back so after talking with abran and my local dealer tech , the dealer tecn is coming to the house with his laptop to try and figure it out, im very concerned i will need a tumbler kit and im sure its not cheap since it includes 2 new key fob and i just bought 1 from dealer ugh
I have foundnthis to be a very unreliable vehicle with stupid issues that should not occur not impressed at all, told my wife im about ready to fix and sell this and put her in another brand

Dealer tech buddie came by, he ended up pulling the covers from the colum and popping the switch off the tumbler, with the key in the tumbler u can use a second ket to turn the switch and the truck runs so he is hoping its just the tumbler
I now need to pull the tumbler to see if its fixable
Now whats potential real bad news is that the truck runs but the bcm is saying the keys are not recognized and not programmed
He has not seen either issue before on an lr3 , range rovers do have a similar issue aparently and it requires a new steering column since there is a module built into the column

Straight forward
Remove covers
Pop the switch of one end, transponder ring off other side they just clip on
Unplug everything to get wires out the way for safety
Cut slot in the 2 bolts holding in the tumbler, they are soft and cut fast, i used dremel with the long wand and reinforced cut wheel, then they just unscrew
You also need to remove the 4 torx holding the stalks to column, 2 on top 2 on lower front , the lower left was different and had washers to space between the plastic and the tumbler
Now you have just enough room to
jiggle the tumbler toward the wheel and drop down, it sits on 2 hooks in column
