I have a weird issue, my ultragauge was not showing coolant temp and the rover is running better than ever. I read where if the ecu doesnt get any input from the sensor the rover will default to pre-set default trims.
Is that correct? do i just need to replace the coolant sensor to resolve this issue?
I know that i cannot pull any ECU data from the UG, Elm327 obd2 and Delphi Cars with the autocom.
I can read the rpms on the Elm327 adapter. I am unable to pull any engine diagnostics from the autocom which is weird because all i can do now is pull the trans codes. In the trans codes i see an error where the engine doesnt show temp but that's about it. UG pulls some info but no coolant temp. Dummy gauge reads its normal range

I have this same issue with my 03’. The UG will read the temp for about 15min then it will read error for the temp sensor only. Restarting the UG usually works but it seems to be intermittent so I haven’t dug into it. Gremlins.

This happened to me once before when it was really cold but didnt think anything of it since the UG came back, now i know for sure the the UG, Elm 327 with the torq app and the autocom with delphi cars cant connect to the ECM while this is going on.
I can talk to the BCU but thats it.
I am looking into buying a nanocom to re-sync the ecu-bcu and i am also waiting for the interior to dry off.
Should the sensor fail the ECM has a back up strategy that uses a changing default value during warm up based on
the signal from the inlet air temperature sensor. When the strategy default value reaches 60 °C (140 °F), the ECM
implements a fixed default value of 85 °C (185 °F). It will also illuminate the MIL.
The ECT sensor can fail the following ways or supply incorrect signal:
l Sensor open circuit.
l Short circuit to vehicle supply.
l Short circuit to earth.
l Incorrect mechanical fitting.
l Signal fixed above 40 °C (140 °F) will not be detected.
l Signal fixed below 40 °C (140 °F) will be detected.
In the event of an ECT sensor signal failure any of the following symptoms may be observed:
l Difficult cold start.
l Difficult hot start.
l Driveability concern.
l MIL illuminated.
l Instrument cluster temperature warning lamp illuminated.
l Temperature gauge reads excessively hot.
l Temperature gauge reads excessively cold.
l Cooling fan will not run.
Sounds like the ECT senor is communicating with the ECM but the ECM not with the device/OBD socket. You may need to clean some connectors and/or check wiring.

Yes, apparently if the hood cowl is broken water can drip on the inside.
I have also found a rust spot so i am assuming the water trail is from the cowl.
The plan is to remove the ECM and all other computers to clean them out.
The issue has been resolved, this has kicked my *** but its now resolved!
After several hours of troubleshooting and searching the internet i found the culprit, a liquid had corroded some connectors behind the dash and under the glovebox.
I cleaned each connector and plug, then added dialectic grease to both ends to ensure moisture is not getting back in.

I would check the connectors just in case, i resolved my issues with some scrubbing!
