Default Intake hose repair

As with many Disco owners, the hose from the intake to IACV broke off. I can not source one at a reasonable price so repair was in order.

I read a few threads and was not really happy with the solutions plastic to brass etc. I prefer all one media in my case brass.

Parts used :
  • 1/2 MIP x 3/8 FIP Brass pipe
  • 3/4 MGH x 1/2 FIP (Garden hose Adaptor) brass
  • 25mm x 3mm O ring x 2
  • 17mm x 22mm O ring x 2, a 16 would work 2
  • RED locktite - you want the brass to stay together

Parts laid out read for assembly

Ready for repair

Start by removing the old plastic connector and tossing it. Clean up the old air hose and intake hose to get a smooth surface. Place one of the 25 x 3 mm O rings on the 1/2 x 3/8 the brass adapter. Then screw it through the hole from the inside on the main intake hose. Get it good as tight as you can WITHOUT doing damage. Then put the other 25 x 3 mm O ring on the outside.

You end up with this:

Now add some RED locktite to the threads and thread the 3/4 x 1/2 brass adapter on. Add a 17 x 22 O ring to the exposed threads. Now you can connect the IACV hose. You will need to put the hose clamp close to the end of the hose, but you get a solid seal.

Outside once everything is connected

Inside

Once you are done check for any brass shavings or other loose materials and re-install.

A nice permanent fix that should not give you any more problems.

I had 2 break and I was able to place the broken nipple thru the inside of the intake tube, use a small amount of RTV to secure it, and by placing the hose up as close to the intake tube as possible it never leaked or broke again. However nice fix!

I was thinking about that method as well. If this one fails I will go that route.

Will an improper seal at this connection cause a slight rough idle?
