The new 2014 LR4's look sharp but they are missing something...... The new interior with the rise up shifter is sharp but try and look for the low box.... All the ones that i have seen have Not come with it and I think this is a great shame as the LR4 is Land Rover's work horse in the US. CAFE standards have come in to play with the V6 s/c, it get a whole 1pmg over the V8 but in all honesty the V8 is better with a vehicle this big and heavy. Having drove it I find the V6 s/c not as quick as the V8 and seems to stuggle at times. Now I will admit that this is based mainly on surface streets and not towing but still find it lacking. The LR4 is a great car and given the chanve I might even trade my Disco 2 for one but NOT with the V6 s/c....

By low box are you referring to Low/High range? I read an article that stated that you can get the new 2014 LR4 without it if you choose but the high/low range is still available for those wishing to take advantage of off-road capabilities. 2014 Land Rover LR4 Photos and Info – News – Car and Driver

All the 2014 LR4's that I have seen and drove do not have the low box. If you try and buld one on LR's site then you can only build 2013's with a V8.... I have no dubt they can be orded withg a heavy duty pack but I have not seen one yet. Even the black pack version does not have low box...

Unfortunately Landrover has become more focused on the yuppies, film stars, Chelsea and celebrity set that want comfort and status but they only use them to commute around the cities, typically in London. These Landrovers I can guarantee have never seen a dirt road let alone muddy water and are kept in pristine condition for posing in around town and running the kids to their private school in the mornings. The farmers who were the greater users of the Series and Defenders are almost forgotten and excluded as they keep their trucks too long and rarely buy new ones. The new replacements for the Defenders which finish in 2015 are these Land Rover Defender to cease production in 2015 | Mail Online which in the UK we would call them 'hair dressers' or 'tarts' cars but hardly a serious working truck like a Defender. I think the 'nouveau-riche' are the latest LR buyers and have been for some years. The LR is destined to be relegated to the same heap as the Merc and BMW 4x4's as a 'shopping trolley' for the 'well heeled' of the inner city society. It has been increasingly obvious that the farmers and us offroad plebs are just a nuisance with our old LR's and certainly not to be taken commercially serious. This is the view many get from this side of the pond whereas it may be different in the US. The new breed available for farmers as working trucks are the Japanese pickups and Nissan XTrails etc. In 10-20 years time the LR as we know it will be virtually extinct apart from groups of enthusiasts restoring them at huge expense. Sad days ahead for the LR offroad clubs.

Being from the states people think I bought my Dii as status symbol as one would say. You don't buy an 04 Dii as a status symbol lol. I've always loved land rovers and I wanted one because of the heritage of the vehicle. I know it's def a capable off road machine and that's what I like about it. I don't care if she only gets like 14mpg. My sisters ex bf bought a used rr not sure of the year because he wanted to look cool an trendy. I know my Dii won't win any beauty contest but that's part of the appeal. Land rover has seem to went away from what they started with and that is kind of sad. The newer vehicles like said above look geared for celebrities and rich folks.

On topic the d4 looks like it would be a nice car for on road activities but I doubt many would take it off roading. Looks like a range rover model a bit
