I stumbled across this thread, although we have a '22 Disco, and I was shocked to get a $532 bill for what is, I assume the exact same oil change in the above video. (my local dealer)

Very nice video. Just to add my two cents. Since we have already performed multiple oil changes on multiple new Defenders, we have had mixed results with the vacuum method. For example, the first oil change we performed was on a 2020 p400. No matter what we did we could not get more than 6 quarts out of it. We proceeded to drop the skid pan and managed to get another 3 quarts out by removing the drain plug in the conventional method. I tried to perform the vacuum method on my 2022 p300. Similar results. I was only able to get five quarts out. Proceeded to pull the drain plug and get the last couple quarts out. We did have a 2022 p400 in the shop for an oil change. We were able to get nine and a half quarts using the vacuum method on that one. We also performed another oil change on a 2021 p300 and we were able to remove all seven and a half quarts using the vacuum method. From our experience it seems hit and miss when it comes to being successful with the vacuum method. The previous DLR engines had an actual vacuum will change tube under the oil cap. We were always able to extract all of the oil on those. So I'm not sure if there's just a slight manufacturing difference depending on engine and model year.

 

Ok so just dropped the defender off to have the oil done and learned that the dealer takes the skid plates off rather than extracting it from the dip stick tube. Every car I have ever had I used an extractor. Anyone know if there is a specific reason the dealer is not using an extractor?

 

Hi everyone. New to the forum. Picked up a 2022 P300 a couple of months ago. Came out of a Jag F-Type S where I first used my Mityvac and an extractor and thought it was the best thing. I could easily pull all the oil with no real effort or shenanigans.

Not so on the Defender. Is it just me - just getting the dipstick in and out for an oil check is a bunch of pushes, pulls and twists. The dip stick literally is kind of shaped like a corkscrew. Is that the same on other P300s or is mine weird?

Anyhow because it’s such a pain I did get about 44 inches of tubing down even getting past the particular bend that drives me crazy with the dipstick but still only got about 5 of the 7 liters.

Thoughts? Can anyone tell me how much tubing they are using on a P300?

Hey guys, coming from fpace17 and used to do oil changes with a pump. Now have rrs21 p400, on my first 21k mile oil change, with about 41" of 6mm tube inside, I was able to get only 4.5 liters -from the get go oil was just above the bottom hole on the dipstick. Now, the question for those who managed to get 8L+ what's the OD of the extractor tube you are using? Thanks everyone!
