I have a '98. Do you think I should upgrade?

pretty sure the single lug nut with the dimple is some kind of locking lug nut. At 7:15, I think you're right. That must have been a prototype or something.

So I still wonder, is the II worth upgrading to from the I? The video really touts the advances, but I wonder how time, like 15 years has shaped the perceptions, you know, hindsight and all.

well, i'm not gonna say you "should" upgrade or anything like that. i went from a '96 to a '03 and couldn't be happier. the traction control is phenomenal, and i'm adding a CDL. it is more comfortable on the road. it leaks less. but, i feel pretty lucky how good mine is. there are no doubt bad apples out there with all sorts of problems.

You got to remember, that the Disco II has a lot more electronics, and way more to go wrong with it. If your going to take it off road all the time, things are going to break, and its going to cost more to repair then a DI. When there are more pieces, there is more to go wrong. But, they are also a lot more conferrable, and in my opinion they look better. Just depends on what you are going for. I personally tend to, and plan to thrash mine, wich is why I went the DI route instead.
