Hello, i am buying my first set of tires for my 1999 discovery ii. I have some newb questions.So the standard tire size is 255/65-16, what other sizes will fit without rubbing?
I want an All terrain tire, I like the GFG All-Terrain T/A KO, but im confused on tire size.
what other All terrain tires would you recommended on a budget, (500-700$)

I run 255/70's Treadwrights Puma's they are a good set of tires. There is more info here.

As long as you have the stock suspension go with a 245/75/16 and seriously consider buying a Treadwright tire. They may be retreads but they are excellant and you can not beat the price or quality.

 

Are these tredwright tire worth the money? They are cheep and usually means so so quality. I want to get rid of my duratracs and size up and crap after 1.5 yrs they are 85% tread.....that is impresive. Do these tires where well? Also retreads....do they stay together?

 

I have a number of friends running the Treadwright Guard Dogs and they love them, great traction, little noise and some of them are over 40,000 miles so far and doing well.

 

I can personally vouch for Treadwright tires. They are only cheap because they are an efficient form of recycling, and use fewer raw materials than a new tire. I had their Warden 285/75-R16 on my old pickup for about a year before I sold the truck and they wear like iron. Never gave me any problems off-road either, though I'd be careful airing down much as it will void their warranty.

FYI if you like the BFG TA/KO The Warden tread pattern is for you. Nearly a perfect clone. I had mine on BFG carcasses and no one could tell the difference.

I am going to get a 265 set of Guard dogs when I get my hands on another set of rims.

 

What exactly is causing you such a hard time deciding? If seeing a picture will make up your mind then you do not know how to pick a tire and tread design.
What exactly are you going to be using the truck for, what sort of trails and what size tire are you thinking about realizing that if you have a stock suspension you are limited to how large you can go.
