So what are my options to ditch these lame 19" rims on my RR?

My 2005 RR hse has these stock 19" rims, and they SUCK for tire options (as I see others have discovered). As far as I understand there are 18" options in Europe. So does that mean I can run an aftermarket 18" rim on this rig safely? Can I go any smaller?

On my LR3, there is a sticker on the door post that lists tire sizes and pressures. This is a Canadian Federal Government requirement and I think also applies in the USA.
If so, you will find most of the available legal tire/wheel sizes and applicable tire pressures.
Also somewhere in the owners manual there will be available wheel and tire sizes listed as well. Sometimes what is printed is a combo of EU, UK and US sizes.
Land Rover also normally shows in their Kit brochure the optional wheels they have available, however that is usually larger diameter rather than smaller which is I resume what you want.
For my winter tires on my LR3, I have the 235 65 R18 rubber on my Land Rover 10 spoke rims. The 235 is the narrower size which is preferred for difficult road and weather conditions where the wider sizes pose some unnecessary challenges.
For the most part these days, any rim smaller than 17" is near impossible due to the size of the calipers. Some Australians are putting 17" rims on their LR3's but they are non Land Rover and special order I think from the either the UK or the US. The problem is a combination of weight, 940 kgs min - getting a strong enough wheel, the offset, P53, and sufficient ID on the inside to clear the calipers.
I think with the RR HSE, as it is a lighter vehicle, you can get by with a rim rated at 925kg, (will be marked inside your existing rims), and the offset, (may instead be 57P, all marked inside your current rims), but I think an 18" should be available.
