The trick to install this to pull down the spring loaded portion, then install the top rod to the smallest part of the slot --- then SIMLTANEOUSLY twist the plastic and let it move away from the end of the slot.

note where is the key ring on bottom right.  The button side of the key fob is up.  The dark line corresponds to the edge of the steering column closest to the center line of the vehicle, and the outer line (the longer one you cannot really see) must be lined up with the forward edge of the steering column.
