Description:
These are pics of a Freelander we got in yesterday. The main bearing spun on the crankshaft. The block is in good condition, but the crank is toast.
Option 1.
Weld the crank journal back to standard, then cut it 20 thousandths to offset any warpage from the weld. Then fit with High Performance Chrysler 383 Main bearings (Clevite). The journal diameter and the housing bore are almost identical, it is .5 thousandth off. They have to be modified though, because they are wider, about a quarter of an inch. The grinder would throw them on the lathe and grind them down to specs.
Option 2.
Since the weld would be on the first journal, it would be on the heaviest part of the crank, it's where the pulley and belts attach. We have a nice crankshaft in stock, so i think they are leaning to do it this way to finish the motor.
We have fitted the 383 bearings on in other motors and they all ran great and never came back.
