Easy peasy, guys. Been meaning to do this for a while, finally picked up the parts. All of you know how annoying the hood prop is to work around. For the price of $22, you'll never have it in your way again. Here's what you need.

A single 16" 60 pound gas prop
Two 90 degree gas prop mounts
Nifty self drilling screws. Be careful! If they're too long they'll pierce your hood.

OK, here goes. Remove all the top bolts of your passengers side fender, you'll need to move it a little. Take your first mount and 2-1/8" past the second fender bolt from the back. Mount it with the ball on top. Just bolt the lip of the fender back over it, no cutting of the fender lip necessary. The mount plus two roofing screws did not push my fender and hood out of line with each other.



Now take your second mount and place it 25" from the past of the very back corner of the hood.



Then you're all done! Clamp on the prop and you're ready to rock and roll.



You can see that I removed my hood liner. I did this because I stupidly got the 40 pound prop instead of the 60 and the liner was too much extra weight. Once I removed the liner the 40 was fine, so a 60 would be perfect since it's the next size up and the same price (atleast it is at camping world).

 

Awesome modification, definitely going to put that on my list of things to do.

Haha, this tape measure is OLD. It belonged to my great grandfather and u got it when he passed away. It's the nicest tape measure in the family because of the metal housing.

I actually like the Rover bonnet props. Rarely are they really in the way for me, but when they are they're easy to fold up out of the way and prop open the bonnet with something else in a location that's not in the way.

Next best, IMO, are spring loaded hinges, but they are more dangerous.

 

Yea, it's not super often. Just often enough to be annoying. I did consider springs, before the gas prop actually, but then saw how cheap gas props were and changed my mind.

I like it. How about a second one on the other side? That would accomplish two things: you could re-install your bonnet blanket, and have legendary Land Rover 150% safety factor.
