Was the front cover already on it when you got it? Sounds like the timing is off. who put the timing chain on? I'm just wondering if the timing marks on the gears/chain sprockets are not lined up but, if they put it together I'm sure they would have got that right.

it came to me as a complete long block only missing the intake and valve covers , I had my go to guy listen it over the phone and he said the same thing . but the cover was on it and I am not 100% sure I put the flywheel on right , so at this time I am rushing to pull the motor ,

ok, so this is a little late , as the truck is fixed and goon , but here go's , so after checking and rechecking everything you have posted to help I decided to go back to the beginning , so after 5 hours the motor came out , and there it was the flywheel was installed wrong , the guide pin was pushed flat and I put it back on right and 5 more hours it was back in. And guess what. it started the first turn of the key. truck is running great and made it back to Colorado running 80 mph and got 17 mpg all the way , I even fixed most of the tire wobble the truck had I thank you all for your help , come spring time I will post up how the exhaust go's on we plan on doing long tube headers and duals .

Thanks for the follow up.
I was wondering how you came out with that but couldn't remember the title to the thread.
Glad you got it.

It's great you found the problem. I'm wondering, do you think the CPS can be removed and a cheap borescope inserted to check for the two missing teeth/slots when at 60 deg btc? It might be a good troubleshooting step for the next guy with this problem.
Thanks for sharing your fix.
