Default Original owner accidently tossed the keys

Can you guys help me walk through the process of getting new keys?
Before my buddy passed away he accidently tossed the two original keys. We went to MAG (Midwest Auto Group) and had just a key made. The original keys had the lock unlock button on the correct(he thought they did)? It looks like I can get new keys on ebay for $200 or so. Is that the best/least expensive move? Outside of just unlocking/locking the car with the key in the drivers door.

You mean a remote unlocking door fob?

If you already have a working blade, that fits your ignition and door etc, you can get an old fob off someone. Spare blank blades are available to slot into that fob. Then you need to program it with something like a Nanocom.

Unless I've missed the point?

Spot on Brochacho. I do have just a key for the door and ignition, no fob.
I can reprogram an old fob?

Yup.

Remember it's just a door opener. No engine immobilizer etc. (obviously as you are driving around.

So buy a used fob off someone breaking cars. Paul G. Abran. Whoever. I'm sure you need a pcb 4 number code, so check it still has that on a little sticker on the inside. Blank blades are available online. Get a few blades cos they sometimes dont work first time. Get friendly with the key cutter dude.

Can't remember what other devices program the chip inside. I used my Nanocom.

the option i went with was ordering the key from
Land Rover Discovery II 2000 - 2005 Key Fob repair and replacement
they sent me a key and a programmer, that you plug into your diagnostic port, turn on the ignition and it programs the fob in 10 seconds. You send the programmer back and he refunds you 30.00 and emails you the EKA code. total cost was 150.00 after refund. Went to locksmith and had key cut. End of story.

I used the same box it came in, if i recall. postage was 5-6 dollars.
The programmer is actually very small
This link shows the size of it.

You can always just lock and unlock the doors by putting the key in the lock and turning it, just like in the old days. I don't have any fobs so this is my only option. No problems at all so far.
