Default Thermocouple placement for engine temp.

Has anybody ever tried popping out a block plug from the engine and modifying it to accept a thermocouple?
This idea came to mind a while back when I bought an engine block warmer for my Disco and it required you to put it in one of the block plugs.
Any thoughts/suggestions/comments are welcomed.
ps: it's still in the box ( block warmer ).

Perhaps consider removal of supply hose to throttle body, that provides a spot adjacent to the ECT at the top of the manifold. Then T tap throttle body supply line to heater supply line with in-line reducer. On the D1 manifold, there is a separate gauge sensor, and below it on the front of the manifold is an un-used plug, on prioor models it was heater supply line. Peoplae have drilled and tapped that plug.
