Default 03 Freelander oil level does not register on dipstick

03, HSE, 123k miles all higway.

Checked cool engine on level ground and the dipstick was dry. Added 1qt and rechecked 10 minutes later. The tip of the dipstick was wet. Added another qt and drove the car. Took it LandRover because it was bone dry. They witnessed the dipstick showing little oil. LR said no evidence of burning or leakage and when they emptied and measured the oil, it was at proper capacity. When they put the oil back in, dipstick read full. Is it me?

Could be.
Are you pushing the dipstick in all the way?
Does it have the correct dipstick?
If you bought it used it is very possible that the original was broken and replaced with the wrong one, either from a different year or engine size.
