Default LR2 Reliability? Feedback from current owners?

Hello - I am considering purchasing a used 2008 LR2. I like the styling, price point, etc.

My concern is reliability. I know very little about the Land Rover product line. Current or historically. One comment that seems to come up from time to time is reliability and gas miliage.

Can I ask for your feedback on reliability? Are they reliable? If not, what are the "known" issues?

Gas miliage: It seems like most people are getting aroung 20mpg all around driving. Does this seem about right based on your experience?

Any other information you want to offer would be great. I would like the Nav system, but some of them don't seem to have it, and I need to find out how difficult it would be to install one.

Thanks in advance!!
Dan

I've had a 2010 LR2 for about 8 months or so. I definitely don't get 20 mpg average. In mostly city driving I get around 15, sometimes lower. On a recent roadtrip I got 20-22 highway @ 75mph with premium fuel.

So far I haven't had any major problems. On the way to my first oil change, the tire pressure monitoring fault alarm came on. They replaced the sensor no problem. Not sure what triggered it.

I've read that the 2008-2009 versions may have rear differential failures. Supposedly there is a "redesigned part" but no recall, which may signal they know about the issue. If it fails outside of warranty it will be pricey ($5000+). Check out this forum:

Knock on wood I've had no problems and love my LR2. If you could pony up for a used 2010 I would for peace of mind.

Thanks for the information.

By far, the biggest drawback is the poor gas miliage. It's really a shame given it's size, the fact it's not a pickup truck, and it's a 2008 model.

We are going to test drive one this Saturday. I still like the styling very much, so let's see.

Yeah it's a shame the mpg isn't better. Driving around in 4WD all the time probably doesn't help, but with a V6 I expected better as well. It also weighs 4000 lbs. Once you test drive the car though, you'll forget about the mpg...

Default you still interested in lr2

I have one for sale if you are intersted. I posted the car on craigslist. Its in mint condition. In terms of reliability, i have not had one problem yet with my LR2 since the day that I bought it. I went in for the regular maintenance, and scheduled oil changes. Let me know if you are interested. Where are you located? Thanks!
