Default My Rover will not Idle
Hi guys,
I've got a 1998 Range Rover SE 4.0 with 103k miles that I bought with a blown head gasket. I have just finished replacing the head gaskets and it will not idle. I don't know if it had this problem before because it would not start when I bought it. It will crank and run smooth as long as I have my foot on the gas pedal. I have checked for vacuum leaks and cleaned the IACV and the mass air meter with no luck. Is there anything else I should try before buying a new ICV?

Hi guys,

I have an update on the idle problem. I read online how to check a typical IACV by unscrewing the 2 mounting bolt, keeping the wires plugged in, and turning the ignition to the on position. It said the plunger should move in or out, but mine never moved at all. Is this the proper test I should use on my rig?

Sounds like an IACV to me. They are pretty cheap.

IACV was the problem. The screw mechanism that makes the plunger move back and forth was locked up. I got it freed it up and it idles smooth now.
