Hey guys,

New here, hope this is in the correct place. I just got a '97 as a project. I was replacing the crankshaft seal when I decided, why not just drop the oil pan and remove the oil pump housing to check the timing and components.

So the chain is very loose and I am going to replace the gear set and chain as well. I came across this kit but it looks like it is for '99-'02 P38's only. Is there something like this compatible with the '97? It looks like just the oil pan gasket that is not compatible with my year, I'd hate to just have a wasted part. Thanks in advance.

Not sure as to the specific part number chain set to us, just wanted to suggest you also replace the oil pump if you are at 140,000 mile or above.

Thanks for the advice Disco Mike. I will look into replacing the pump as well since I am at 167k. Do I need to replace the entire housing or just the oil pump gears?

Thanks Savannah, that was a good read.

I just got finished replacing everything last night. Going to drop the radiator back in after work and fire it up and see what happens.
