Here it is but I'm struggling to understand why they still have to use this on current models instead of solving the underlying issue or maybe that dealer just likes to pad their invoices with useless services?

Note that it is only recommended when injectors are actually suspected to be clogged.

My recent invoice for the 21000 mls first service.
brakefluid DOT4 was cheap, oil way to expensive, software maintenance should have been done under warranty ( airsuspension check for excessed bodyroll)

24/7 road assistance for the next full year.
So this will be my only service to keep the warranty running, after that as long as possible DIY maintenance.

I am glad that my receipt is helping others defend themselves from dealership practices. Consider this a nice payback for all the times others have helped me.

Otoh this has made me cautious about the next service and to actually ask what’s included and compare it to the recommended work in the service manual.

I’ve learned to look up the service items before I go in.

You know what though. Should we really have to expect a reputable global brand to be THAT bad?

The brand said what the intervals are, the dealer is who packages things for upsales. They’re not beholden to only follow manufacturer “minimums” at all times. Just have to be at least the minimum.

I prefer checking dealers because I see cracks in the wall. If I had to deal with just the manufacturer like Tesla I’d be pissed. I want choice so I can see who’s f’ing me and I can go elsewhere.

Just quoted $1200-$1600 for first service. Asked what it includes.

"Depending on what you need, oil change, fluid top-off, fuel treatment, wipers, engine cleaning, 'check things like seatbelts', brake wear check, tire rotation".

I just rotated my tires and my engine is clean, how much for just an oil change? Oh, that's $275.

Yeah, push back on that and grind them. I got mine "down" to $800. Thanks to other posts from folks in the area, I pushed back and felt good about shaving a few hundred off. I'm a huge member of the "DIY Oil Changers", but I really wanted them to sign off on the service performed. Ok, not financially prudent - but you realize we all bought a Defender, so my accountability went out of the window a while ago.... Interestingly, there was a survey on the Land Rover Advisory board recently about Dealer servicing and I flamed the current Dealer practices. What that means in real life? Who knows.

The pro tip here is DO NOT let them start working on the Defender until you get a copy of the estimate and bitch to them about what they pack onto it. (One of the items tossed was a $20 can of fuel injector cleaner that used to be proscribed for the D2 that was a few hundred dollar "Engine Service").

Everything else is unnecessary I believe…just follow the schedule in your manual. Match that for your mileage. LR always adds other things on.

The SA was very nice and I just politely said, "I think I just need the oil change for $275". That got an "of course, no problem". You know they know.
