I’ve been shopping around looking to move out of my 2018 D5 HSE Si6 and into a Defender.
Currently looking at a ’22 X-Dynamic HSE in Pangea Green sitting on 20" Style 5094 5 spoke
Satin Dark Grey wheels currently fitted with 255/60/R20 Pirelli Scorpion All Season tires.
The vehicle is great but I cannot get over how much I dislike the look of the Pirelli tires on it.
They’re just way too conservative for lack of a better word.
What all terrain / 3 peak options do I have for these specific wheels?
I recall reading that certain Defender wheel styles were not compatible with all terrain tires.
Is this accurate?
When I visit the various tire websites and enter the model year, make, and model, the choices are pretty slim.
And that’s without taking into account the specific wheel style (5094).
The only A/T options that appear on the tire sites are the Goodyear Wranglers, which still look too tame and
the BFG All Terrain T/A KO3’s, which look awesome but apparently aren’t available until May 2025.
I don’t know much about tire fitment…are you able to fit a slightly different size spec on these wheels…like 265 or 275?
It looks like Ludders54 is running KO2 275/55/R20 and the pictures posted in this thread look great (this is exactly the
look I’m wanting).
For some reason, the tire sites don’t list the KO2’s as an option?
Is this because I’m entering the search spec. as 255/60/R20 (emphasis on 255)?
Does anyone here have 20” 5094 style wheels with good all terrains that could share some pictures?
I need to see how the 5094 wheel looks with an all terrain tire to determine whether this Pangea Defender is the one
I should go for or not. I know I sound like the person who says they don’t want to buy a house because they don’t like
the curtains (um, just change them), but I’d like to avoid having to buy a new set of wheels and at the moment I just
can’t unsee how tame and conservative the vehicle looks with the Pirelli’s.
Apologies for the lengthy post and for treading trodden ground, but thanks in advance for any 5094 specific advice you can share.

255/60R20 is a JLR-specific size. I have yet to find another vehicle that runs this size. Pirellis suck. They only make good semi-slick track tires and that's about it.

I originally ordered my Defender with 19" wheels & Goodyear Wrangler Adventures, but swapped them for a set of 20" wheels from an LR4 because of the lack of tire choices. These wheels have a different offset to the 20" OEM Defender wheels, but they fit just fine. I ended up going for the Falken Wildpeak AT3W sized LT265/60R20. These tires have since been discontinued and replaced with the AT4W. They are relatively quiet on the street and the off-road performance is exceptional. They are also 3PMS rated and were great in the snow last winter.

The maximum size tire you can fit on a Defender without mods is 32.6"

Shop by tire size, not by model and it opens up all the options.

255/60 20 is an oddball LR size. Nothing of merit from which to choose. The only 3PMSF tires in this size are the winter tire options in this size. Michelin X ice and Nokian Hakkapettalikkakia...???.

275/55 20, 265/60 20 are 31.9" (an OEM size for winters) and 32.5" respectively. Oodles more options, including KO2. Fitment no worries.
Some rim options cant be spec'd with the Goodyear A/T tire on the build site. No rationale exists for this as the load rating on the rims is adequate on all. It's just a build-site quirk oddity. Mount whatever tires you like on any OEM rim you like. The goodyears are a highway tire in all but name.

Silly question: if the 265/60/20 tires fit without any mods or rubbing issues, why wouldn't JLR sell the Defender from the dealerships with that tire size on some trims? Looking online at tires, there are TONS-TONS-TONS of tires at that size - all different varieties for different buyers. By comparison, the 255/60/20 is mostly P tires (not LT) and there's few to pick from. If we can both see this clearly, and we assume JLR can see it too, why wouldn't JLR put a set of 265/60/20s on something like their 130 Outbound?! looking at what tire rack shows for the GY Wrangler All Terrains, at the 255mm it's a P tire with load XL and NOT severe snow rated. Sticking that on something called an "Outbound," is sub-optimal. If JLR can put the 265mm on the Outbound, it would not only be severe snow rated, but it goes from XL to a higher load rating (E). How can a higher load rating for tires be a bad thing for someone buying an Outbound? And at that size, there's tons of different tire choices. I have no doubt that you can put 265mm on Defender - I just don't understand why JLR isn't doing the exact same if there's no space issue for that tire size. Any ideas on that one? The upside to selling Defender with the correct tire/rim set up is clear, so I don't get why the dealerships and JLR aren't already doing it. That's why I was wondering if it's a MPG or safety thing...

Guys, I have been running Falken Wildpeak 255/60 R 19 tires on factory 6-spoke all black rims. They are sweet and much tougher than the factory GY Wrangler "Adventure".

It"s 3Peak and M+S rated & marked as well, so there's no reason except roughly 1/2" sidewall (60 series vice 65 in OG spec) you're missing not to go there.

Handling is excellent in mud, awesome on snow or gravel and quiet on the road. OG 19 offroad tires are crap on snow, dance and hydroplane WAY too easy as.well as noisy even in Comfort mode. Soft.as H as well, and no Kevlar - I lost two to minor punctures in the sidewall that should never have occurred in the first place. One was a simple pointed rock that never should have gotten through at all.

Chance also has it that the at3 4s is on a massive 40% off sale at my local Tire store, making them literally half the price of the KO2's, sounds like it's meant to be.
KO2s are a bad road tyre, especially in the wet and slippery areas. Had them on my 2019 Amarok for a number of years and they kept letting go in wet corners and heavy braking. Wet round abouts were very scary.

The K03 255/65 19 LT tire is supposed to be out by August. I'll head over there from the Falken Wildpeaks.

Big difference in those and the K02 as far as road manners, better mud & snow, etc.

Where did you get that info? I emailed BFG late last year and they didn’t have a date to share.
