Hi, my first post here.
There are several low mileage First Edition demonstration cars available for a 10k or so discount. Thinking about getting one.
My first question is, is the rear diff lock standard or not? Would I actually need it? How much difference does it make?
Second question is, how good is the Meridian audio? First Edition doesn't have the Meridian Surround sound option. Is the Surround sound version much better?
Thanks,
Joe

Joe:
I ordered the basic stereo system on my 110 S -- and I have to say it is nothing special. It has am/fm, no CD player and very mediocre fidelity (poor highs and lows) .
Presently, I am coming to understand I need to purchase and use an MP3 / Ipod player to play the content of CDs? Something which I will need my son to explain to me. I have Meriden sound in my 2011 LR4 and it is markedly better.
Well, ok this is all fine, because if one orders every Defender option then the price quickly becomes unreasonable. Choices are necessary.
For me, the rear diff is an absolute necessity, as I daily drive off-road, and my years driving without a locking rear-diff in the LR4 has been painful, at times. But, if you with certainty can say you will only drive on asphalt, without snow, for the life of the vehicle, then the locking rear-diff. is unnecessary.
So it goes. Enjoy !!!!

I ordered mine with the basic sound system as I use SPotify for everything. Like Trio says the base sound isn't great but it works. I have heard the Meridan sound system is not great either. I am planning on taking it to a audio store to have a sub and amp put in plus a couple more speakers. LR uses the same pieces for all cars despite options picked. For example the tweeter holes on dash are there but no tweeter. This makes installation so much cheaper.
