2020 Defender X: Auxiliary Electric Booster Heater - or not?
2020 110 X. With the cold weather starting, it is surprising how long it takes the heater to start blowing hot air in the winter... it's 35 degrees here in Portland this morning. Engine cooling system etc is all working properly, as far as I know.
I read in the "Defender Workshop Manual" (the service manual, put out by Land Rover, the official one) that the Defender has (or can have) an electric booster heater, which is designed to "fill the gap" between the time you start the engine and the time that the coolant heats up. Note: I'm not talking about the not avail in US market Fuel fired booster heater that all Rovers have had in the UK for years. I am pretty sure my old RRS had this electric booster heater, and I remember the heat cranking on pretty much immediately in that car. Also had a BMW that had this.
Anyone have a clue if US market high spec Defenders (in my case X, 3 zone climate, cold weather pack etc) I suspect if mine does, it's a software issue. It is definitely *not* coming on.

Also seems very slow to make any noticeable difference. Using the phone app to start the car with temp set a good 40 degrees warmer than ambient. Anyone learned if this is an issue or just poor design?
I might do a little digging here. This is something I'm very curious about. I don't think it would take me long to figure out, I just need the motivation to do it. If/when I do I'll either make a new post or reply to this one if I can find it again.
Following this thread. It sure would be nice to have a software update to take care of this especially for those in cold weather.
Another much needed update is to have the ability to disable the folding mirrors by the user in cold and snowy weather. That one should be an easy one for LR to do, and I have no clue as to why it is not available.
@NeedaHobby -Still in the some situation as my original post here. Unfortunately, I had to reschedule my dealer svc appt twice now .. but I have an appt for next week. So no update..
That said, after many more cold days and short around town drives on those days, I am indeed convinced this aux heater is deactivated or something with climate control is not working properly on my car. Although I may be suffering from the wrong expectation based on reading the service manual. If I give the Defender a couple miles, eventually I do get heat. But it takes an extraordinarily long time...

It also takes a very long time to get heat in my truck.
