Default 2020 defender x p400 engine failure

Hi, have any owners of the New Defender X P400 had an engine failure? Mine has just failed with cyclinder number 1 misfiring. After a diagnostic check at the dealers they said it has low compression and after carrying out a leakage test found cycliner 1 was losing compression into the crankcase. They have recommended an engine replace but not "offered" one under warranty yet????

JLR local agents have just come back to me on the P400 saying they'll escalate the matter so replacement engine should be covered

Well, that’s very generous and caring of them.

That sounds like a disappointing experience. How many miles/km on the vehicle? Are you in USA?

Considering mine has been at the dealer for 10 days getting the windshield replaced (which was on hand), the PCV recall (again, parts in house) and a software update, I hope your Defender is good to go in 2024 when you pick it up from the dealer.

No, I am in Zimbabwe, Southern Africa. There have been two other engines fail locally and more in South Africa I believe. The worry is once its replaced with could take ages how are you guaranteed it will not happen again?

Sorry the vehicle only has 15,000 kilometres or 9000 odd miles on it.

Sorry this has happened. But these things do happen. I had a 2014 Jeep Wrangler. It dropped a valve seat down into No. 6 cylinder and punched a hole in the side of the block, just shy of 15,000 miles/2 years. Jeep put a new long-block in (that’s everything below the cylinder head — not sure if the term is used outside the U.S.) and I sold it to a friend last year with 45,000 miles and he’s put another 15,000 or so and no further problems.

I don’t think catastrophic engine failure is a common problem on these trucks. Good luck!

Hello, I’m the owner of a Defender X-Dynamic p400 living in Ivory Coast. My engine had a failure with 2 cylinder (compression issue) after 6 month of ownership and 7 000 km. The engine has been replaced by the dealership, in the city of Abidjan, Ivory Coast nearly 50 Defender engine had broken, the dealership is fully aware and this situation and they have stopped the importation of the P400 6 Cylinder. They said the issue is related to the fuel quality, however all the other model of JLR don’t have this issue and we have tons of Range Rover here.

I also add the windshield issue, the roof top issue, and two of my main front light collapse at 2 month of interval.
