Default 2021 Land Rover Defender Non-Refundable Deposit

Has anyone ordered a 2021 Land Rover Defender and been told by their local dealer that they will place the order but you'll need to put down a non-refundable deposit of $5,000? If this is the case, there will be no negotiating with the dealer once the vehicle arrives.

My dealer's deposits are refundable. They're part of the Sonic Automotive Group and I've ordered all sorts of vehicles with them over the years in Audi, Porsche, etc...never had an issue when I need a deposit back.

I have a written agreement that it's refundable. Now for negotiations after the build contract is done, You have to pay agreed price. I'm one of those that preordered my MY 2020.5 110X. The only discount I got was the $1000 allowance. I was ready to back out and there were local offers for my build but decided to purchase it instead.

Sounds like this is dealer-dependent. My dealer asked for $2000 down. It’s refundable per the emailed receipt I received.

As far as negotiating with the dealership once it arrives, I ordered the exact Defender I wanted through the build tool. I think it’s presumed that I won’t be trying to fanagle a better price and that they won’t be tacking on extra charges.

This is probably a low volume dealer that got burned by tire kickers?

Clubguy- did you order from Minneapolis JLR (Luther Group) or Richfield JLR (Morries Group)? I ordered from Richfield, they’re new and not super knowledgeable but pretty easy to work with so far. As long as you do you’re homework and know what you want you should be ok with them.

I’m pretty sure my $5k deposit is refundable if I change my mind.
