2022 Defender orders taking place now
Hi everyone,
I ordered a ‘21 Defender X-Dynamic HSE last week, with specific trim and options that I wanted. The only hold on this was my credit app for financing which ultimately got approved yesterday. My dealership then called me to inform me of approval and to then let me know that they “got a call from LR Corporate” to inform all US dealerships that orders being placed from this day on will be designated as 2022 models.
They then said that the only difference will be a mid June delivery date instead of a late May date. I’m fine with that to get a newer model, but that being said I’m a little worried if trim, packs and options are affected. I sat down for over an hour, ordering and making sure they submitted specific options and trims that I want for this car. Will these be affected on the ‘22 models? Do I need to make changes? The difference between ‘20 and ‘21 trim levels and standard options are somewhat big and that worries me for the ‘22 models as well.
I’m probably overacting as my dealer said not to worry and they’d let me know ASAP. But I want my order submitted now and I’m anxious to wait for ‘22 ordering details. Does anyone have any knowledge of this? Or more information for ‘22 models.
Thank you!
-Dave

And . . . finally . . . it's here!
My wait is over and happy to be reppin' San Francisco and the Bay Area! Wheeee!! This is too much fun!! 🎉
This is a . . . 2022 P400 X-Dynamic HSE Eiger Grey with Extended Black Exterior Pack. Interior is Ebony/Khaki, dark grey crossbar, light oyster headlining, and 11.4" touchscreen. Lovin' every drive! Wheeeee!!! ❤️🎉😃

There were quite a few changes from the initial launch 2020 Defender models to the 2021 models. (Mostly how options were bundled and a big price increase) I doubt you will see any changes from 2021 models to 2022 models. Although based on what I have read regarding parts shortages, you should expect a late summer delivery.

Is this confirmed anywhere? If they are adding the P400e for the 22's I might consider upgrading from P300. definitely excited to see the official 2022 order sheet now.

I would love to swap to the hybrid for improved economy, acceleration, and torque.

Have you driven a hybrid RR or RRS? The hybrid system is still too unrefined. The current P400 setup has lots of grunt, and moves the Defender quite nicely. I would wait to see if they double the battery size at least as BMW did in the X5. Otherwise, you'll get maybe 10 miles on electric... if lucky!
As for 2022's, every hard goods industry is moving forward to 2022 already as supply chains are massively screwed up making 2021 almost impossible to predict. The hope is that by pushing out deliveries, that will give the various suppliers in the chain time to catch up and/or new sources subbed. We'll have to wait and see how that plan works!
