Recently got delivery of MY2023 Defender with solar attenuating glass as an extra option. I was suprised to see no visible coating on windscreen but the thermometer logo was there on the windscreen. This thread confirms that visible coating is no longer there. I have a question, on these latest generation solar attenuating windscreens do we need to put the RFID tags on the dedicated places as mentioned in the manual or anywhere on the windscreen is fine ?

This is all a blur to me now. So, in my car MY2020 I can clearly see the "film" (and cut outs) shown in the posting above. I also have the little icon with a thermometer and a swirling arrow, but I have nowhere to be found the option (or as standard equipment) of solar attenuating windshield in my sticker. Looks like in the early models we got this solar attenuating thing as a "free" upgrade but not listed in the sticker?

So......With this new "solar absorbing technology " and no cut outs at the top of the windshield, I have to assume we can put an EZ-Pass or radar detector anywhere on the windshield?

Only non-heated screens as the filaments in the lamination block RFID, I had to mount my EZ-Pass on the sunroof for it to be read by the overhead toll gantries.

I have a heated windscreen and wasn't aware it could interfere with RFID. It makes sense, however I mounted my EZ-Pass and an RFID door opener to it and both work fine.

l went for the solar attenuation windscreen because it's supposed to be less prone to developing cracks.

l don't know if this is true, but mine has been okay so far.

lt's no longer available as an option on the U.K. Defender configurator.
