25% Tariff?
My truck arrived at Brunswick Ga port this morning. Dealer is in Colorado and had shared with me the vessel and ETA to Port Hueneme April 12. I’ve had vehicles backtrack from CA before, so wasn’t surprised. But I wasn’t expecting the truck to arrive in GA. I’ve searched as well as I can through the forum, the web, AI, and reviewing any CA arrivals from GA.
AI says (ha!) automakers generally use rail or other ground transport cross country. Hoping that’s true and it passes customs as at Brunswick as the vehicles final destination entering US.
Dealer knows there’s another stop, but certain it’s Panama. What makes sense isn’t always what happens, but it does seem GA would be final destination. I know it would be if the car was headed to the southern states, just not certain about more west central states like CO.
Has anyone experienced this? Should the tariff still apply on the 12 (lots can happen by then) and mfg does not reduce their margin by paying the tax in the short term, or there is some sort of exemption for vehicles in transit (unlikely), I won’t take the car. I don’t have a deposit as this is a from a dealer I’ve purchased three cars.
Thanks you for any info or sharing your experience.

It would make sense that the tariff would be applied to those vehicles that are invoiced after April. Since yours was more than likely invoiced prior to that date and is in transit, the new tariff should not be applied. But then again, in this crazy whirlwind, who knows? I doubt the customs agents have received any clarity on this; there are thousands of ships heading to the USA with tons of merchandise that were invoiced prior to April 2025. I would personally ask your dealer about this since they are the ones who will get the invoice from JLR. Good luck and let us know what you find out.
Your dealer is correct. I meant to say the invoice date of when the vehicle left the factory and got put on a ship. JLR USA would more than likely be the party invoiced. Did you ask your dealer if your Defender would be subject to the new tariffs? I guess the dealer will not know until they receive the invoice. Please let us know what happens as I am sure there are many more folks who are in the same situation.
Yeah - I talked to my dealer today, he said they are having a meeting with JRL next week and should know more (not sure if that’s true or just stalling)…but at this point it seems like no one knows what’s going on.
Slovakia is correct.
