Default 55K miles (ie out of warranty) Defender for sale: Wear patterns

Found this in my daily Autotrader search results ... an out of warranty L663 (but CPO'd which should help it sell). I always enjoy looking at reference pics of new models like the L663 with quick high mileage, it gives me a heads up on wear items and how to avoid it or look for it when purchasing down the line. I remember seeing gen1 L322's a few years old with high mileage and the wear on interior surfaces was shockingly terrible (that silver painted center console, cracked drivers seat plastic trim piece, the steering wheels, door armrests crumpling, headliners sagging after 3 years, hood and tail door letters peeling silver color off, that sort of thing)

2020 Defender X
55K miles !!!

Pics aren't great but looks to be holding up and I'm not seeing lots of wear which hopefully speaks to quality. Interior switchgear isn't peeling (you laugh but early L494's peeled). Not a ton of rock chips up front (if any) -- notably hard to see the rear quarters for the chipping, I was wondering if any paint would be left. Rear muffler isn't completely tiger striped. Drivers seat and steering wheel look presentable.

I do this out of curiosity more than actually caring about any of it, btw.

I have a very hard time buying used anymore. I tested an off-lease Evoque with only 20k miles on it a couple of months back. Suspension was completely broken, clanking over bumps etc, brake pads worn light was lit, smelled so bad inside I felt like I needed a shower after test driving it. Some people are incredibly hard on their equipment and clearly don't care one way or the other. Not for me, CPO or not. I ordered a new Bronco sport instead of grabbing anything off lease. On the flip side someone will get a nice Defender when I trade it in, I treat my vehicles with kid gloves and they get all of the scheduled maintenance.

My first rule of thumb: Never, ever buy a vehicle off-lease. Most lessees, knowing full well that they will not be responsible for the long term well being of that vehicle tend to beat the hell out of them, figuring that they will one day hand the keys back and walk away. A friend related a story of someone he knew who drove his lease like a getaway vehicle from a bank robbery, over curbs, high speed cornering, pedal to the metal at every traffic light. I will never buy a vehicle off-lease, don’t even like buying used for the most part. Only if it was owned by a little old lady who only drove it to church on Sundays. And for those old enough to remember watching, anyone recall the Andy Griffith episode where Deputy Fife bought that exact vehicle, from a little old lady who only drove it to church on Sundays?

I am adding to my list. I currently have "Drive it like a Rental!". To that I'm adding, "Drive it like a Lease!" Unfortunately, it doesn't sound as funny...

BTW - I used to LOVE Andy Griffin show. I don't remember that one, so I'm going to have to YouTube it or something.

I never buy used. It usually doesn't get you anything anyway. I like to be the only driver of my vehicles since new

Ugh carfax says oil changed at 26K miles and 50K miles. That's terrible. And at a carwash? Sorry to the Land Rover-adherent service interval people but ... 26K for a first oil change on any car... that's a big no for me.

2018 Q5 was my first lease, traded it in for the Defender before the lease was up. I was always worried about the turn-in inspection where you're supposedly dinged for anything more than just normal wear and tear so I kept it pristine as much as I could. I guess not everyone is worried about that though, based upon the two I test drove off-lease there wasn't a bit of concern about paying anything extra to get out of that and into a new one, maybe they have so much money it doesn't matter to them.
