Default 60 Days Remaining on Warranty

Folks,

I have 60 days left on my factory warranty (2020 110S P300 w/~39K miles). What have other members/owners done as a final check towards the end of their warranty? It will be due for an oil change about the same time. Still, part of me is thinking about having my local indy (very reputable, have used for years with previous LRs) give it a comprehensive once-over in the event they find anything that I/the dealer may overlook (small leaks etc.), and I can try to have it tackled. Any thoughts or things in particular to look for would be great. I don't have anything glaring that I know of at this time.

Thanks

I'm right at 42K and my 2023 110 P 300S needs that service performed. I really like the vehicle but a recent issue is challenging my confidence. The coolant reservoir was replaced about 3 weeks ago (took 2 visits to convince them it wasn't really losing coolant, it was the sensor) and the now the "check coolant" light has begun coming on now and then. I am thinking of buying the extended warranty since I think I won't be happy with any comparable vehicle (the Land Cruiser is close but not there and worry about new vehicle bugs). I'll be talking to the dealer this month about it and will share my experience.

A lot of the newer Defenders had a very hard to detect coolant leak caused by faulty water pumps. My 23 Defender had to go to the dealer 3 times before they discovered the tiny leak from the water pump. A simple pressure check will not detect it. Tell the dealer to put it under pressure overnight and check it again. If you have a leak, the pressure test overnight will confirm it.

Thanks
My warranty on my 2020 HSE is coming up soon and I just had my second scheduled service done (I’m very low mileage) and a full inspection completed prior to the warranty expiration. Overall, it cost me right at $1,000 and I’ve had absolutely zero issues to date, but it was a good means of confidence knowing I am in solid shape when the warranty expires and I’m on my own.

I used a Land Rover service center (Land Rover Denver) and have a very solid service advisor whom I’ve used for a couple of years now. They provided a video walkthrough of everything they checked, their findings, etc., and a notation of the recall item they handled. Very thorough and I have the video as proof of what was done. I would recommend letting an authorized service center do a final service and inspection and just spend the money to have peace of mind.

Dealers only sell third-party warranties as JLR only offers an extended warranty on CPO vehicles. You can't buy a factory JLR extended warranty.

Adding on to this I would also mention that not all JLR dealerships will even sell an extended warranty for a vehicle that's no longer new. I think a lot of folks think they can put 48k on it and drive into the JLR dealership asking to buy an extended warranty. To that I would say YMMV. My local JLR dealership only sold one with new vehicles and although it was 3rd party they had a lot of previous (good) experience working with them on claims. With that being said I'm sure for an out of warranty Defender an owner can probably find some extended warranty from the bigger outfits like Endurance for just one example, however I personally trusted the one I bought from my dealership more simply because of their history with them. It's an awkward moment for the dealership when you're trying to make a claim and something isn't covered, the dealer wants it to be covered, they have to deal with the owner, and the owner is not a happy camper when something that was maybe expected to be covered isn't covered. It could be worth asking the dealership what they recommend for an extended warranty even if they don't offer one. It could come down to the lesser of evils, i.e. this one has maybe been decent but this other one maybe they'd steer clear of based upon previous claim attempts. It's not a good situation owning one of these things out of warranty IMO unless money is no issue of course... which is why I'd never buy one used from a non-JLR dealership and would almost never consider a used one period unless I personally knew who drove it and it was CPO'd besides, in short almost no chance.

Yikes! Thats pretty damning. I can’t say I’m an optimist about my 24 Defender, but I’m not afraid to own it out of warranty because all the repurchase research I did showed the defender to be reasonably reliable. Plenty of owners over 100k miles shared their no issue history. Many people have 4-5 years history that’s reassuring. Sure we on the forums seem to hear more horror stories but that’s the case for every vehicle forum.

i also think the new defender built in a new factory with a largely different parts bin resulted in a decidedly more reliable Land Rover than past land and range rovers.

I’ve got over 6k miles/9 months ownership and no issues. Random blank screen pivi doesn’t really count, imo.

also Tasman blue/vintage tan looks the best.

Frankly in todays world even lexus has issues some real big ones too....like engine replacements...so I'm good with mine. I may get a warranty when mine runs out...only had it for 2 weeks.

also for every bad comment I think there are 3-5 good ones....

I'm at 25k miles and in my last two weeks of warranty. It has been pretty "reliable". and only seen the dealership for oil changes. Any expected problems? I didn't have the coolant leak etc.
