Default Activate WiFi

Can someone explain to me what exactly concept and benefit of enabling WiFi with the GAP tool?
Once enabled, does it require a monthly subscription?
Thanks

It can be a hotspot for you laptop if your phone doesn't already do that. It's not super fast, but you can stream netflix from it.

OK, that’s where my confusion stems from. My phone already has hotspot so I wasn’t sure what the benefit would be.
Thanks

Not fully answering your question, but my experience with my 25.5 X-Dynamic are: Its only 4G. We live in a 5G area so connecting eliminates using a 5G connection. (This is a hardware issue, not something that will ever change.) Here in the US, it partners with AT&T, which I also use so comparing the phone antenna/reception to the car antenna there is no difference. (Which is kinda funny since LR marketing implies the car rooftop antenna would improve connectivity.) In terms of the Pivi functionality and software updates I assume having this functionality enables everything to operate seamlessly and so far for me it has. Personally, I'm fine with paying them a few hundred a year when my free subscription ends, a drop in the bucket in the big picture of owning a LR.

I'm surprised they haven't switched to 5G yet - the Defender's electrical architecture supports 5G. While I don't know if the modem is capable of 5G, the car itself is. JLR made a big deal about how it is 5G-ready when it launched.

I'm sure it is 5G hardware. The auto industry is just behind when it comes to this stuff. Most automakers were on 3G until it was shut down. I'm not aware of any automaker currently using 5G.
