Default Activity Key on a 2020 Defender

Posted a quick video on YouTube for those interested on how the new activity key works. I have a 2020 US specs Defender and was able to buy the key - 315 Mhz model - and get it activated by my local dealer, total charge 2 hours of labor plus the cost of the key. YMMV depending on market area. I understand 2020s in countries outside of the US use a different frequency (433 Mhz) and require the KVM (Keyless Vehicle Module) to be replaced and reprogrammed before the activity key can work. Also, my understanding is that keyless entry is required.

Thanks for the demo, that 2 second screen off thing would drive me crazy. Have you had it long enough to know how long the battery lasts?
The water drop is probably to disable the screen while you're in the water, like the Apple watch has.

Mine will last about 2 weeks on a charge.

And yes, the screen shutting off drives me nuts. I would probably wear the damn thing a whole lot more if the time was always displayed. But then it probably wouldn't last 2 weeks...

I've only had it one day, battery still shows fully charged. 2 weeks battery life is probably a good guess(and the reason why the display turns off after 2 seconds.) Thanks for the tip about the water droplet, that makes sense.

I'm still wearing my watch, this one goes on my other wrist now that I'm traveling. I got a mild heart attack this morning when I didn't feel the key fob in my pocket as I got to the terminal, lol. This will take some getting used to.

I was able to purchase a brand new and unused activity key (newest generation) from a guy on the FB groups. It came with his D90, but he didn't want it. I'm about to take delivery of my MY22 D110 and was going to have the Activity Key programmed to my vehicle during the pre-delivery phase at the dealer. I just got to wondering...even though the AK is new and unused, it may be programmed TO the seller's D90 and maybe "locked-in" to that vehicle, unable to be programmed to mine? I may have to pose this to Simon with Powerful UK. They did a a lot of work troubleshooting the Activity key.

Funny, I purchased my activity key the same exact way a few months ago, from a new D110 owner of a FB group who had received it with his vehicle but didn't like the "cheap" look of it and didn't want to keep it. I had the same thought as you when I sent him my money... Did the owner you are buying from pay to have the watch activated at the dealer (meaning he can already lock and unlock / start the engine of his D90 with it), or is the key still new and in the box like mine was? Mine was not programmed by the original owner - not that he knew of, anyway - so I just brought it to my dealer and he had no issues pairing it to my car. If it's already activated you may indeed have a problem (or you may not, not sure on that one), otherwise you should be just fine, I don't think these keys are pre-activated even if you order them from the UK along with the car. Dealer still needs to do the programming locally, and charge you a couple of hours of "labor" of course.

Perfect! That's what I'm thinking as well and Simon (Powerful UK) was kind enough to reply very similarly to you. I will check with the previous owner, but I don't think he had it programmed or even opened the box (still had the plastic film on the screen).

Speaking of which, a permanent plastic film on the display would be nice... That screen scratches so damn easily for an "activity" watch. I've had mine, what, 3 / 4 months? Although I use it every single day for a variety of activities, most of those scratches and scuffs are there to stay. Get used to them.

So for come confirmation, an Activity Key purchased after the fact, can be programmed to a MY22 Defender (pretty sure 21 and 20, but can only confirm my 22).

Purchased one from a user on the FB groups, in new condition. It had been ordered with his D90, was initially paired to his vehicle, but he didn't want it. He said that he "reset" it prior to selling to me. I made sure it was the NA frequency version and during my new D110's PDI and initial setup at the dealer, they were able to get it paired and works perfectly.
