Default Air Ride Compressor Buzz

I had occasion to drive without using the media player and noticed a buzz emanating from the rear of my 110. As soon as I press the button to lower it to access height, the buzzing stops. Likewise, when I set it back to normal ride height (or off-road height) the buzzing returns. It’s not super loud since I don’t seem to notice it when I am listening to music even at a conversational volume.

Does the compressor run constantly while maintaining normal ride height? I’ve experienced a leaky air strut in my I Pace, so I know that tell-tale sound and this buzz ain’t it. Plus, the ride height does change at all four wheels, so IMO the sound is not coming from a strut.

Anyone willing to turn off the infotainment system and change ride to see if they hear a buzz?

Every experience I've ever had with air suspension is that a compressor that gets overworked will have a much shorter life than one pushing a non-leaky system. If it's that compressor you're hearing, it's worth having the system checked.

Yeah, if you are hearing it constantly it's possible you have a leak. The way these systems tend to work is there is a pressurized air tank that compressor fills to a certain level, and once it reaches that level it turns off. It then should only turn back on when the tank reaches below a certain level. If it's constantly on, I would suspect a leak in the system somewhere.

Somewhat related question - Sometimes when I get into and start my Defender, the air suspension will lift it up a bit. I just started to notice this (so far only after sitting overnight or longer), but the weather has finally started to change with cooler nights, so I'm wondering if the weather change is causing the pressure loss? It's not obviously sitting crooked or way down to access height (or lower). I did have one error pop up over a month about where it was stuck in regular height, but that cleared with the next startup, and hasn't come back. Just trying to figure out if it's normal or if I should plan on scheduling a service visit.

I have been having the same issue, started about about 2 months ago. Front right would be leaning in the morning and raise at start up. Couple of weeks ago started sagging in the rear. Had the car in for tire rotation last week and was told they recalibrated the suspension. Friday the suspension fault warning came on. Cleared after locking the car. Car booked into service this coming Thursday.

Update: I got my first ‘Suspension Fault’ error on Saturday, but it did not appear again upon startup Sunday. Interestingly the buzzing has not returned, but as I should have mentioned in my initial post, the buzzing is intermittent so I can’t say it’s gone for good.

As my wife’s I Pace is on its third week at the JLR dealership awaiting TWO battery module replacements, I’m not keen on driving another Disco Sport right now.

Update………dropped the car off at dealer October 21st, suspension dropping overnight. Was told they would have it a couple of days, no updates, no explanations and and two weeks driving the discovery sport that the passenger side rear door doesn’t open!

Default True Confessions

Since this thread was bumped, I have a confession to make. What I thought was a buzzing compressor turned out to be an adjustable spanner used to secure a bike rack I had tucked into the pocket of the tailgate. Lesson learned, but I’m glad because other than the couple of trips to the dealer for software updates, my L663 has been a joy to own over the past year and 8,400 miles!

That said, sorry to hear about your troubles. If it’s any comfort, look at my other two cars below. The Jag has been in the shop for five weeks now, or is it six, with no end in sight.

Speaking of the Disco Sport, have you turned off the music while driving? And people complain about the noises coming from the rear doors in the Defender! It’s nothing compared to the Disco. And don’t get me started on the tranny! It’s been a long five weeks!
