Default Air Suspension vs Coil Over

Currently I have not selected the air suspension on my new 110 build. As I watch videos on the new defender I am being pulled into wanting to add it. Wanted opinions from the group. If I add it I am going to do so through the towing package. Those that have it please let me know your opinion. Those that don’t I would like to hear from you as well. If there are any that have or have had both then your opinion is gold.

It’s an add of roughly $2500, just trying to figure out if it is worth it.

My Pro(s) for getting air ride:
height adjustable - for off-roading, this is gold
better ride (for me) feels like a nice car, smooths out most bumps on the road
car feels as stable as coils
My Con(s) for not getting air ride:
at one point in the life of the vehicle you may have to change some of the air components - may be a bit costly
if one of the air shocks busts while off-roading, it may be difficult to fix (but not impossible)

My personal choice was air, no question about it in my mind.
Whatever you chose, you can't go wrong with this vehicle -related to ride.

Have you been in a coil over defender? My wife’s is coil over and the ride is nice. Much better than the X3M we had and close to my Infiniti QX80. I am not trying to sell you on coils but just curious if you have been in both?

Yes. I have been in both. That is why I chose air.
For me, coils won't cut it ... and then, I have the height adjustment for off road.
Now, if you are not going to use it as much off road, then yes, you may be perfectly happy with coils.
After all, is a personal preference.

At $2,500 I would say tow pack + air is well worth it. Much better towing configuration in my opinion.

i have been a passenger in a defender with coil and I do feel that air is better. Unlike coils, with air you don’t feel the weight change as you load more passengers and luggage or when towing. My wife went from F-Pace to Velar because the ride was so much better. Auto-access height option is also a good thing.

^This. The self-leveling air suspension is great for when you pack the Defender with family, luggage, ski boot bags plus a roof box on top.

I have the air suspension and towing package. Love the ride and easy to tow.

I may have been one of the unlucky ones but did have the rear suspension housing break and come into the cargo area 3 months after driving off the lot. It took 3 weeks for the repair (another story) but slowly falling back in love with the defender. I’d say skip the air suspension if you don’t have a need to adjust the height but order if you need it (for off-roading, low garages etc).

I have air and love it. With everything I have added to my car I actually wouldnt be able to fit into my garage without it. Forgot to drop the car today and banged into a sign.... Poor axe. Love it for that reason and the fact that I can level the car with the air suspension when sleep in it off road.

Default Coils FTW!

I will be the lone wolf on this one. I prefer coil sprung for on road and off road. Air has it's benefits. Mainly access mode and load leveling, but for durability, simplicity, and peace of mind, coils win! JLR did an amazing job with spring rates and design also. I have 16k miles on my coiler and dont miss air suspension at all (previously had an l322 on 35s with air). I tow a 19ft airstream cross country. I daily drive it. I use it heavily off road. Bowler uses a p300 d90 coil sprung for their builds (i can leave the d90 and p300 being superior for another post&#128513 . Not saying that I would.kick a p400 d110 on air suspension out of bed or anything. It is still an amazing vehicle on and off road. Just my 2c
