Apparently they made a custom bit of body panel that replaces the OEM bottom of the A-Pillar trim which adds a light mount.
Just checking to see if anyone has tried these and what they think. They look to be well lateral to the hood opening so that's nice. Are they robust enough to both hold the lights off road and withstand the occasional whack from a passing branch?
I won a set of the regular Triple R ditch lights. They are really bright and do a good job when needed.
I can’t speak to the efficacy of the pillar mount. My only concern would be the extra hassle if it impacts the inevitable windshield replacement. Maybe a non issue. The other concern is this A pillar trim seems to have a habit of self removal so I’m loathe to mess with mine.
a cool design for what are really good lights.
I have mine controlled by my 2 spare smart link buttons. A very simple $40 Bluetooth wiring setup.
Another vote of confidence in the Saltek Motorsport brackets. Top stuff.
The ditch lights look great, glad the Super Bright LED wiring harness/RF remote using the Defender's programmable HomeLink buttons worked out.
Triple-R's A-Pillar light mounts look stout and actually bolt in place using the factory Torx bolt that hold on the long A-Pillar trim panel (based on the installation instruction PDF's Triple-R posted at that link). So they should be more secure than the factory trim piece they replace that just snaps in place.
I'm guessing in the event of a windshield replacement, the A-Pillar trim would need to come off and that bolt removed anyways so if the ditch lights were wired with quick detach connectors from their power harnesses, it should be a fairly painless process.
Glad the Triple-R lights are working well and nice and bright. Do they work well enough that you're not needing any additional front illumination/light bars?
Also, any noticeable added wind noise from those ditch lights? Especially at highway speeds?

Thanks!
Dave. The wiring setup works great. Thanks for sharing your idea. Way above my pay-grade. Super effective, simple, neat and cheap.
Good information on the pillar mounts. Given the quality of the lights I would expect a high quality mounting solution.
no noise from the lights on highway.
It’s rare I’m on trail at dark but when I am they’re good to have. far from essential but useful.

Really glad that worked out for you.

Great, good to know that the lights they sell are super bright/high quality. I was only going to order the mounts and source some other lights, but maybe I'll just do the whole enchilada since their pricing is actually quite reasonable for all the stuff you get.
Yep, $430 for the whole enchilada jumped out at me as shockingly cheap for that (including the lights, the harness you need and the lights). Everything else on my wish list from Triple R is like $2000 so ... this is well within reach.
I can vouch for Gavin’s lights. They’re really trick and cool.
I’ve been slightly jealous of them several times on our trail runs. Just slightly ...
$188 for a pair (MSRP is like in the $230-260 range, Rigid had them on sale for $99 ea but the Amazon price was actually much better if you factor in the free shipping).
Looking at the reviews online, these seemed good to go and I like the blacked out look of the reflector system. Performance numbers should be similar to the Triple-R lights at a bit lower price ($230 for the base Triple-R lights and $270 for the higher output version).
Hopefully all the mounts, lights, wiring harness and stuff will be here by the end of the week and I can work on the installation next weekend. I'll keep you guys posted.
This is still somewhat invasive as the light bar ends up installed inset into the grill and you have to cut a rectangle out of the plastic grill grid to recess the light properly.
Have to check the dimensions on the Linear 18 light bar, but perhaps just getting the mount alone gives folks the option of going with a different light bar.
You could always just order a replacement lower grill trim bit to do the cutting on (but man getting it out and back in after is alot of work) or keep one around to return to stock, the part runs about $135 for a used one on Ebay (search for part # L8B2-17F791-A).
Or there is this harder to install but inexpensive unit that goes behind the center grill mounting system on Amazon for $124:
Again, getting down and in behind that grill looks to be a pretty serious endeavor.....
And if you don't mind something that sticks out in front of the bumper, these grill mounts that clamp in front of the grill recently popped up on eBay for ~$70: eBay - Light bracket in front of center grill on L663
Those look really easy to fit but the a couple of big lights, but they would be pretty exposed up front. Looks like you might be able to turn the mounts sideways to fit a light bar between them? Though I suspect that unless the light bar is extremely thin, it'll block the front bumper camera.
I'm inclined to go method 1 with the Triple-R mounts and just cut into the plastic grill to properly recess a light. Any thoughts?
