Keeping the door ajar will disable the ability of the Defender to lower the vehicle when it decides it wants to, say from off-road height to regular height (or access mode). I have not been able to find how to have any action in the other direction (keeping the suspension from trying to lift the vehicle). .

Keeping the doors open (a couple of them in case someone comes by and tries to close one before you can yell not to) -- along with using jack stands -- is a very important safety feature when you have raised the vehicle to place yourself under it, or between the body and wheel / suspension, in order to place or remove your lift rods when off-roading, if you use lift roads temporarily.

Enjoy ! (and be safe).

Apologies for reviving an old thread, but what is the consensus here for the best jack for both on/off road for a rig that has the Lucky8 sliders? I remain confused as to if I she get the ARB or a the bottle jack kit (both and carry the ARB when off roading and the bottle jack when on the highway)?

Appreciate some insight and guidance, thanks.

I'm pretty sure that -- with a gapIIdtool -- you can lock the suspension in whatever height it's in for this purpose. Service mode or something (?)

i have the ARB jack always in the back, and a 3 ton floor jack at home.

i figure the ARB is more than good enough for emergencies on or off road, the floor jack is for things like rotations

I once saw a jack (bear with me as I try to cobble together a description) where the jack looked like a high lift with a pin instead of the lift arm. The pin just slotted into a rock slider hole and easy peasy. Anyone seen something like that? Wonder if that would work with a set of proper sliders. I think it was for a rally vehicle so it may have been just a custom lift tool. I'm not sure it was materially better than a hi-lift though. Would have the same space challenges.

That is the old school ARB style lift point. I believe rovers north sells the adapter pin for the hi lift jack.
